I recently (meaning a few minutes ago) installed Anno 2070 through steam to play it. I'm really sorry to bump this old thread, but I don't have new thread privileges, so I'll just use this thread to vent my frustration. Remember kids, make sure your Ubisoft account has valid email recovery options if you link it to any other account (same thing would apply to Steam or PSN). It seems that Ubisoft store more information than a simple gamertag check, so they must use some other personal identifier from Microsoft for their account link. Interestingly, changing my gamertag doesn't fix the problem. Seems like a massive pain in the arse to go through the UK information commissioner's office, but I've had to do all the GDPR stuff for my own databases and it really pisses me off that Ubisoft think they can just ignore it. They shouldn't be storing my personal data from 10 years ago without my explicit consent (and a EULA clickthrough from 2008 would not be GDPR compliant, since GDPR didn't exist at the time), they shouldn't be storing it with a single password that either doesn't exist or is unchanged for 10 years and has had no secondary validation - and they have a duty to correct any incorrect personal information as soon as it is brought to their attention. I'm currently deciding if I can be bothered to go through GDPR to get it fixed. They give no contacts for escalating the complaint beyond their first-line support. If a hacker changed your email/password, Ubisoft would not be able to nuke the account and will not stop the account accessing personal data on any linked accounts (so heaven help you if you linked it to your facebook!) Note that this would also apply if the account is compromised (and for all I know, my old account has been compromised, it's not like I used >16-digit random strings stored on a password manager back in 2008). So I'm in Catch 22 because they have a process to remove incorrectly-linked accounts, but in order to use it, you have to own the incorrectly linked account. So despite them knowing that I own the Xbox account, they won't let me link it to my actual Ubisoft Connect account. The problem is, the account from the 360-era does not have a valid password/email recovery address. Ubisoft won't delete the link unless I can prove that I own the original Ubisoft account. Should be no problem to change it, right? I once played a Ubisoft game online on my XBox 360, >10 years ago, and they remember the link! I did some digging and Ubisoft connect has grandfathered all the accounts from Uplay and whatever online gaming system they had 10-15 years ago. Odd, I thought, as I don't have another account. There is no way to install or play the games without the link. They ask to log in to Ubisoft Connect and link the Xbox account, similar to EA's system.īut it fails because my gamertag is linked to another account. Since they added Ubisoft connect to Gamepass for PC, I tried to install one of their games. Please excuse me if this gets a bit ranty. I am trapped in a horrid catch 22 with Ubisoft.
